G Gathering Planning Ahead for Health

Planning Ahead for Health

Westminster Canterbury hosted Joyce Schmidt of Medical Care Advocacy Group for their monthly Speaker series.

Andy Cooke, the Chairman for the forum at Westminster Canterbury, welcomed Joyce Schmidt, RN, MSN, BSN, of Medical Care Advocacy Group for February's Speaker series. She shared her knowledge of senior rights, and the importance of having an advocate before you realize you need one. "Coming up with a personalized plan ahead of time really helps bring to light any issues that could occur and determine the best form of care and medicine," she confided. Joyce also reinforced the concept many centennials have adopted of eating half of what you think you need, walking twice a day, laughing a lot, and loving with no measures.

Joyce also was in attendance for the clergy breakfast offered by Key note speaker Brenda Cobb, ODU Speaker Christianne Fowler, and Admissions Director Kathryn Bennett at The Memory Center of Virginia Beach. The event emphasized the community and church's role in supporting those who have been diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer's disease and their families.
